Student Misconduct

You may be involved in the Student Misconduct process if:

  • You need to report the behaviour of another student which amounts to misconduct
  • You have had a misconduct report made against you

The Student Academic Affairs Team will manage this process and can talk you through the various stages, potential outcomes and how to get the help and support you need.

At Ulster University, we are committed to fostering a safe, respectful, inclusive environment for all members of our community.

The Student Conduct Ordinance ensures the University can address any behaviour by students which falls outside the standard we expect.

Student misconduct undermines our core values and can negatively impact the experience for other students, as well as the wider community.  All students should understand their responsibilities and the importance of upholding the standards that support a thriving academic and social community.

Where an allegation of Student Misconduct presents significant safeguarding concerns, the University may be required to take immediate precautionary action.

Students are required to disclose any unspent criminal convictions for relevant offences.  The list of offences considered 'relevant' can be found in the Student Conduct Ordinance.

Who can use this Ordinance and for what?

This Ordinance can be used to alert the University to instances where student behaviour has potentially fallen outside of the expected standard.

Allegations of student misconduct can be made by staff, students and members of the public.

If you are unsure if an allegation breaches the Student Conduct Ordinance, the Student Academic Affairs Team (SAAT) can contact you to provide advice and guidance on the process.

Please be aware that once a report has been made, it is unlikely that SAAT will be able to provide you with any further details on the progression or outcome of a case.

What this Ordinance does not cover

This Ordinance only applies to the behaviour of current students.

Therefore, this cannot be applied to staff, members of the public, perspective students or those who have graduated or exited from courses at Ulster University.
