Academic Appeals

The Academic Appeals procedure allows you to appeal an academic decision if they have new information about circumstances that affected their performance, or evidence of errors in the assessment process. If successful, you are usually given the opportunity to resit the assessment.

You will need to know about this process if you believe you need to appeal a grade or mark that has been approved by the Board of Examiners.

Learn more about Ulster’s Academic Appeal process and the schedule for submitting appeals by visiting the Examination Appeals page.

The academic appeals process is the process by which you can appeal a grade/mark within a short window of time once the Board of Examiners has ratified the grade/mark.

There are two types of academic appeal possible, one which looks at extenuating circumstances or information not known to the Board of Examiners at the time of ratifying of grade/marks, and the second is around procedural (or other) irregularities.

An academic appeal will not alter an awarded grade/mark, it may however enable you to resit an assessment if successful.
