Turing Scheme

The Turing Scheme is the UK government’s scheme to provide funding opportunities for students to carry out approved study, work or volunteering opportunities world-wide. By participating in the Turing Scheme students will be given the chance to develop new skills, gain vital international experience and boost their employability skills.

Turing Scheme funding is available on a competitive basis for students going on a study or work abroad placement that is from 28 days up to a maximum of 12 months in duration to help them make the most of their time abroad.

Ulster University's Turing Scheme 2023/24

We are pleased to have secured Turing Scheme funding to help cover travel expenses and costs of living for specific student opportunities for the 2023/24 academic year, with enhanced funding available to students from a widening access and participation background.

Turing Scheme funding has been secured for the 2023/24 academic year only; this includes placements taking place between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2024. Eligible students will be notified by the Global Opportunities team and invited to apply.

Future funding for the Turing Scheme will continue to be subject to a national application and UK Government Spending Reviews, and this page will be updated as information becomes available.

Turing Scheme funding is not intended to cover all expenses for students’ mobility. The amount is based on the duration of the period of study, work or voluntary placement. Duration is calculated from the first day a student is required to be at their place of their placement until the last date they need to be present.

The grant will be paid in pounds sterling into a UK bank account. The grant is administered by the Global Opportunities team and the specific amount a student will receive, as well as the terms and conditions, will be set out in a grant agreement signed by the student.
