Translink’s late-night travel scheme is a year-long pilot running on Friday and Saturday nights, with buses and some rail services running later than usual to support the city’s night-time economy.
In Belfast, there are 11 dedicated Metro night bus routes leaving the city centre at times around midnight and into the early hours (up to 2am).
There are also late-night Ulsterbus and Goldliner services connecting Belfast to towns and cities across Northern Ireland, including Derry~Londonderry, Newry, Dungannon and Downpatrick.
The best part? Standard fares apply and student and concessionary tickets can still be used.

Top tips for getting home safely
Even with late-night services available, it’s important to have a plan in place for getting home with alternatives in case you miss your connection.
- Plan your journey before you go out
Check routes and times in advance using the Translink journey planner so you know your last bus home. - Travel with friends when you can
Heading home with others can make late-night travel feel safer and more comfortable. - Keep your phone charged
Make sure you have enough battery to check routes, call for help, or contact someone if plans change. - Avoid leaving it too late
Try to catch an earlier service rather than the last one of the night, just in case there are delays. - Keep your ticket or payment ready
Have your travel card or contactless payment ready to make boarding quick and easy. - Stay aware when walking home
Stick to well-lit routes, avoid shortcuts, leave the earphones in your pocket and let someone know when you’ve arrived home safely. - Know your backup options
If you miss your bus, have a plan B, such as cash for a taxi or the option of a lift arranged. - Drink Smart
Don’t overdo it, mix in soft drinks or go alcohol-free to stay alert and keep track of time. Never leave a drink unattended and if you do, don't go back to it.
