In addition to conducting our own pioneering research, the Biomedical Sciences Research Institute (BMSRI) provides a diverse range of state-of-the-art equipment, specialist laboratories and infrastructure that can offer clinical & translational services to academic researchers and business.

Innovation and Core Services for Industry

Our research infrastructure and internationally recognised biomedical expertise operate as cost effective sustainable Core Facility Units (CFUs), which are available to academia and industry.

Our CFUs are managed by highly-skilled dedicated teams coordinated by academic and technical coordinators. We have the capability of running projects to Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) quality standards (whenever required) and we can arrange for third-party.

The Biomedical Sciences Research Institute strongly supports regional, national and international economic development and offers our services and capability to other external academic institutions, SMEs and major industry, including some of the world's leading pharmaceutical and biomedical companies on a consultancy or contract research basis.

Consultancy contracts are managed through our technology and knowledge transfer company, Innovation Ulster Ltd.

The Biomedical Sciences Research Institute is a modern, well-equipped, state-of-the-art research facility with centralised resources including:

  • Advanced bioimaging/microscopy laboratories
  • Facilities for use and storage of mammalian cells and tissues
  • Genomics research laboratories
  • Mass spectrometric analysis
