Your library at Ulster University has so much to offer. As well as course books, it offers a wide range of other resources to help make your studies easier.

Reading lists

Looking for course-specific reading materials? The Library has a Reading List service, so there's no need to search around for what you need.

You can access the Reading List online, organised by Faculty, Course, or even individual module. Each list is put together by your lecturers and includes both essential and recommended reading.

Once you’ve found what you’re looking for, you’ll see exactly where to find it in the library, whether it’s available as an e-book, and how to reserve a copy.

Reserve and collect

If you need an item that's on loan or available at another campus, you can reserve and collect it from your chosen campus. You will receive an email when the item you've requested is ready for collection.

Subject librarians and guides

Each of our campus libraries has a subject librarian that can offer you support specific to your course. If you have a library query, you can complete an online form with your question, and a dedicated staff member will be in touch.

We also have subject specific guides available for students, which provide a database of all subject material that may be useful for you in your studies.

Laptop lending

Don't have a laptop with you on campus? No problem! You can borrow one from the library for up to four hours.

This service is available 24/7 at our Belfast and Coleraine campuses with a self-service unit. For Derry~Londonderry, visit the library information point.

Hot lockers

If you’re on campus and your phone or laptop battery is running low, borrow a hot locker to charge your devices! These lockers can be used to store your devices for up to 24 hours.

Note that this is currently only available on the Belfast campus.

Exam time support

At those times of the year when you may need extra support from the library, the team are here for you! During exam times, the library offers extended opening hours during the week and on weekends. Find out more information in the lead up to exam time on the library opening hours webpage.

You can also access past papers for your course from the library when you’re preparing for exams. These can be accessed on the Library webpage. You can search for past papers using your course reference number, module number or keywords.

Online drop-in clinics

If you have a query and would like to speak directly to a librarian about resources, referencing or finding information, you can attend one of the library drop-in clinics. These online clinics occur throughout the academic year and are Faculty specific. Complete a registration form before the clinic begins to supply information about your query.

The library also offers online referencing workshops. These workshops demonstrate techniques for Harvard referencing, Oscola referencing, APA referencing and more.

Study spaces

Each campus library provides a range of environments for work and study including study spaces near the main book collections and spaces with fixed PCs that are near printing, scanning and photocopying facilities.

If you prefer to study in silence, there are designated quiet and silent study zones that are clearly identified in each campus library. We also have flexible learning areas with furniture and equipment that can be adapted to suit your needs.

Bookable group study rooms are available to students in each campus library, offering silent or group study facilities. Some of these rooms are equipped with ICT equipment for group use, including large LCD screens with a networked PC or laptop connection.
