The Doctoral College is delighted to be running the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition for the seventh year! We invite you to join us for the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Final on Thursday 6 June 12pm-2pm in The Diamond, Coleraine campus. The 3MT® Final will be followed by our PhD Awards Presentation where we recognise and celebrate the achievements of our PhD Researchers including Prizes for Outstanding PhD Thesis and Best Poster in the Festival of PhD Research.

The 3MT® is a research communication competition, which challenges our PhD Researchers to present a compelling spoken presentation on their research topic and its significance in just three minutes. We will have up to 8 finalists presenting work across a wide range of disciplines. The Winner of the Ulster 3MT® Final will go through to represent Ulster in the UK Quarter-Finals of the national competition hosted by Vitae and sponsored by Taylor and Francis.

So far our PhD Researchers have been very successful in the 3MT® UK competition. Last year Erin McEvoy (School of Sport) was one of 6 UK Finalists out of 90 participating Universities. In 2022, Ulster University’s Yasna Najmi (School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences) won the UK 3MT® People’s Choice Award. Oluwashina Akinsanmi (School of Geography and Environmental Sciences) was awarded the same UK prize in 2019. An outstanding achievement for Ulster!

The 3MT® is an unmissable opportunity to hear about the excellent PhD research underway at Ulster and to support our PhD Researchers.

The Winner receives a prize of £300, the Runner Up prize is £100 and the People’s Choice Award prize is £100. The People’s Choice award will be decided by the audience on the day using a voting card with the winner being announced at the Awards Reception which will take place just after the Final.

Please register if you would like to attend.

Remember to follow us on X @UlsterUniPhD for updates.

We hope you will join us on 6 June 2024.
