19 students from the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment (CEBE) recently visited China, hosted by Shaanxi University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Xi’an.

They began their trip by spending a day in Beijing to visit the Forbidden City and cultural sites, then moved on to Xi’an by bullet train where they visited sites such as the world-famous Terracotta Warriors and learned about Chinese culture.

Here’s what Engineering student Declan McLean had to say about the experience:

“I could not recommend this programme enough to someone who wants to experience China. I may never of had the chance to come to this country at all however thanks to AEMG and SUST I had a life changing experience”

Why the visit to Xi’an?

Our students visiting Xi’an is part of a growing partnership between CEBE and SUST, which offers joint computing, engineering, and design programmes and enables Chinese students to come to Northern Ireland and study for part of their degree at Ulster University. The visit to Xi’an wasn’t just about discovering a new culture – it was also about making meaningful connections with students from SUST.

In August, CEBE will have the chance to strengthen these new friendships when a group of SUST students comes to Ulster for their own 2-week visit, with those who were part of the trip to China helping to welcome and support them during their stay.

The aim of the visit is to inspire more students from SUST to come back for a longer stay and study at Ulster University.
