Meet Maya - Content Producer at OffShoot TV

We spoke to Maya about her two award wins and her experience of working at OffShoot.

How does it feel to have won in two categories at the NaSTAs?

It was a lovely surprise as this was OffShoot TV's first time at the NaSTA Awards. I have to give a massive credit to my friend Lili Busby (who studied Journalism at Ulster), who had the original idea for the documentary, which won the Gold Award. This was a project we both worked on together for a few months, and we really put our hearts and souls into it, so it felt amazing to win. I'm so pleased that I also won a Silver Award in the Production Talent category, and extremely grateful that my work has been recognised in this way!

What is your role at OffShoot TV?

I develop ideas for content, reach out to people to get involved, direct, film, and edit. I've worked on a range of content, from profile pieces, our magazine show, comedy, sports and events coverage, to documentaries and music performances. I work with an incredible team, and every day is different, which I love!

Tell us about your experience working for OffShoot.

Working at OffShoot TV has been an invaluable experience as it's given me the freedom to experiment with different ideas and develop my skillset both creatively and technically. I started working at OffShoot TV last year, a few months before I graduated from Screen Production at Ulster Univerisity.

The Film and TV industry can be a challenging industry to find work in, and so I was really thankful to have a job at OffShoot TV lined up after I graduated. I've made so many new connections and learned so much. My favourite part about OffShoot TV is, of course, working with the rest of the team! We all have different strengths and interests, but that's what makes us a great team, and we always love it when someone new wants to come and get involved with us!

Would you recommend current Screen Production students to join the OffShoot TV team?

Yes! Whether you have an idea for a piece of content, want to work behind the scenes, be a presenter, or even if you just want to come and have a chat, then please reach out to us via email, Instagram or Tik Tok, or come and say hi to us in our office (BC Building on the second floor of The Mall in Belfast)!

It's a great way to build up your portfolio in your area of interest, add to your CV, and make some new friends.

I would also encourage anyone from any course at Ulster - even if it's not in media - to get in touch. If you want to have a go at trying something new, this is the place to do it!
