Martin McGinn


Overview

Martin McGinn is a Lecturer of Design at Ulster University. His interests are focused on how Design Thinking, Process and Strategy can improve Education, Healthcare and Manufacturing.

Based at Ulster University's Belfast Campus, he has engaged with Design Education at Secondary, FE (Further Education) and HE across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, through Teaching & Learning Primary & Secondary processes such as critiques, validation panels, competitions, exhibitions, conferences and is also an External Examiner to other institutions in the UK.

Since 2008, his focus in Design Education has been based on the introduction and use of 3D Modelling Rapid Prototyping (3D Printing) and more recently in the use of AR & VR modelling & visualisation tools and practices within the traditional Design Development Process, for both Product & Furniture.

His position within the University allows him to engage with Industry and in particular Small to Medium Size Enterprises and Start-ups, helping to Design and Develop innovative products and services across many different industry sectors. Much of his focus in the last 5 years has been on the Healthcare sector and disrupting Service provision in Community Nursing & Palliative Care sectors.

Within Ulster University, he has been involved in the development and implementation of the Design Programs at both Level 6 Undergraduate & Level 7 Master's Degree programmes.
