Overview

Dr Aaron R.J. Hutton earned his MPharm (Hons) in the School of Pharmacy, Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) in 2017 and completed his PhD in transdermal drug delivery from QUB in 2021. He is also a registered Pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland and a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, with experience in community and academic pharmacy.

Aaron began his research career in microneedle-mediated transdermal drug delivery as a PhD student in the School of Pharmacy, QUB, under the supervision of Prof Ryan F Donnelly (2019-2021). From 2021-2024, Dr Hutton worked as a Research Fellow in the Donnelly Lab, advancing microneedle technology and contributing to various industrial sponsored projects (PATH/USAID, PATH/NIH(USA), Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, LTS Lohmann Therapie-Systeme AG, Pharmather, Sanofi, Elasmogen Ltd, BioMind Labs Inc., Foghorn Therapeutics Inc.). He was then appointed as a Lecturer in Pharmaceutics at Ulster University, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2024.

Research Interests

Dr Hutton’s research interests are in the development of hydrogel-based formulations for controlled and targeted drug delivery. His research has a strong focus on the design and physiochemical characterisation of nanogels for a wide range of therapeutic and diagnostic applications.
