On the 19th of October 2016 Professor Marlene Sinclair, Head of the Maternal, Fetal and Infant Research Centre at Ulster University presented a paper entitled "Bespoke Birth for the “Z” Generation".
The paper was based on over 20 years of research on the appropriate use of technology in childbirth and the need for maternity care professionals to be competent in birth with and birth without technology.
The paper is focused on making three key points:
- The “Z” generation are technologically savvy and expect to see machines and devices
- The business market is capitalizing on APPS whilst we are fighting against technology and alienating parents from us and we need to offer women and their partners support to engage in shared decision making with us.
- Bespoke birth using technology for shared decision making is highly possible (example Optibirth http://www.optibirth.eu/optibirth/)
