Dr Siobhan Buckley

Overview

Dr Siobhán Buckley is a Lecturer in Law at Ulster University School of Law.

Siobhán’s research interests are in the areas of youth justice, young adult justice, comparative criminology, punitiveness, cross-sectoral differences between criminal justice sectors and transitions from youth to adulthood (from a criminal justice perspective). Siobhán’s PhD research examined the contrasts and similarities of approach between the adult, young adult and youth criminal justice sectors in Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands. The research identifies the drivers of penal policy and assists in the development of policy concerning the relationship between adult and youth criminal justice sectors (and in particular young adults within the criminal justice system).

Siobhán joined Ulster University School of Law in 2023. Before joining the School of Law, Siobhán worked as an Assistant Lecturer in Law at Maynooth University and has taught at the School of Law and Government, Dublin City University and the Faculty of Law, Catholic University of Lyon (as part of the dual undergraduate degree BCL (Études Juridiques) with Maynooth University).

Siobhán completed her PhD at Maynooth University having been awarded the Maynooth University John and Pat Hume Scholarship (2017-2020) and Irish Research Council Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship (2020-2022). Siobhán was awarded her Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from Maynooth University, her Barrister at Law Degree (BL) from the Honorable Society of Kings Inns and her Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning from Maynooth University.
