CLT Team Presents AI and Judicial Decision-Making Research in Vienna
Members of the Centre for Legal Technology team recently travelled to Vienna to share early insights from their ongoing research into agentic artificial intelligence in judicial decision making. The project is funded by the AI Security Institute and forms part of a wider effort to understand the risks, challenges, and potential benefits of integrating advanced AI systems into legal processes.
The presentation was co-delivered by John Keers BL and Dr. John McCord, who led a discussion on the ethical, legal, and practical implications of using AI in the courtroom. Their session focused particularly on the concept of "agentic AI", systems capable of independent reasoning or decision making and the profound questions this raises for fairness, accountability, and transparency in justice systems.
The event brought together academics, legal practitioners, and policymakers from across Europe, offering a valuable platform to exchange ideas and explore collaborative opportunities.
This appearance marks an important milestone in the research project, and the CLT team looks forward to continuing this work and sharing further insights and developments in the near future.
