If you are a current member of Libraries NI, the Northern Ireland public library service, and aged 18 or over, you can apply to join Ulster University Library Services as a borrower. By obtaining membership of the university’s libraries, you can then borrow print material from its four campus libraries, based in Belfast, Coleraine, Jordanstown and Magee.
Janet Peden, University Librarian and Deputy Chief Digital and Information Officer, explains:
“We look forward to welcoming many new members of the public to our campus libraries where we hope they will avail of the range of information resources to support their academic studies in our friendly and welcoming library environment.
“Our enhanced library spaces offer a wide range of study facilities to consult library materials. Each campus Library has a number of subject librarians who will be able to provide help and support to access information relating to your specific programme of study and to answer any queries concerning the subject resources you can access.”
Jim O’Hagan, Libraries NI Chief Executive, adds:
“The partnership work between the Ulster University and Libraries NI has been really encouraging and this is a great example of how co-operation can result in improved services and availability of resources for customers and the general public.
“This is a great opportunity for customers of the public library service to gain access to academic material and study space. At the heart of both library services is a desire to support people in their learning and to improve life chances and I would encourage our library users to avail of this new and unique service provision.”
Civic Access borrowers will be able to borrow up to two standard loan books from any campus library. Members can also access the inter Campus Loan Service but will need to speak to a member of university library staff directly to do this.
Civic Access membership of the Ulster University Library is available for an initial period of two years. Membership can be renewed as necessary for a further two years, and will be via the online form.
