The European Youth Capital is a title awarded to a European city for the period of one year, during which it will be given the chance to showcase, through a multi-faceted programme, its youth-related cultural, social, political and economic life and development.
Dr Malachy Ó Néill, Provost of the Magee campus, said: “Ulster University plays a vital role in the life of this city and district, renowned for its culture, creativity and commitment to the development of its people.
“Working with a range of partners, we are committed to developing the campus as a major regional resource for globally recognised teaching excellence, collaboration, innovation and industrially relevant research.
“The title of European Youth Capital offers a fantastic opportunity to improve and enhance youth provision in the region through the delivery of new ideas and innovative projects which encourage the active participation of young people in society.
“Success in this bid will represent a new chapter in the City and District’s engagement with young people, empowering them to be active citizens, designing solutions for the unique challenges they face in areas such as health and wellbeing, youth democracy, access, inclusion and education.”
