Professor Barbara Skinner explores the ways in which English is used across the world to connect people. She uses examples from her civic engagement, research and teaching to consider how English plays out in people’s lives and leads to a world connected.
Dr Barbara Skinner is a Professor of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Education in the School of Education at Ulster University. Barbara teaches on a range of teacher education courses, especially in the field of TESOL and multicultural education. She is involved with doctoral supervision and examination and recently her research has focused on minority language pupils in Northern Ireland. Her passion for supporting overseas students to do their best during their studies in UK higher education contexts also plays out in her research. As Director of Partnerships and Development for the School of Education she collaborates with overseas colleagues to form global partnerships. In addition to her role as researcher and teacher educator, she is a member of the Council of the British Education Research Association (BERA) and an Editor of the BERA Blog.
