The John and Pat Hume Foundation, Community Dialogue, the Peace Summit 2024 Partners and the John Hume and Thomas P. O’Neill Chair in Peace are hosting “Forgiveness Redefined - In Conversation with Candice Mama", to hear the life story of the motivating and inspiring women.

Candice Mama is a South African Human Rights Activist and Influencer. Her work in forgiveness, reconciliation and trauma began after her story of forgiving apartheid assassin and her father’s murderer, Eugene De Kock, made international news.

Her story was the base of acclaimed documentary "It's A Pleasure to Meet You" featuring her and Siyah Mgoduka which was Showcased at the Louis Vuitton Foundation. Candice's story has even been listened to by the Dalai Lama.

She has received many awards and accolades throughout her life which include:

  • The Human Beacon of Dignity Award for her contribution in the field of forgiveness and reconciliation
  • One of Vogue Magazine's top 33 most inspiring women in the world alongside: Nicole Kidman, Michelle Obama, Malala
  • Named in the Top 20 African Women by the African Union and United Nations celebrating women who have contributed to building peace in Africa.
  • One of the #UN75;75 Stories
