Job Title: Mind Your Mood Coordinator
Job Description: The Student Wellbeing (Student Support) team wish to recruit two placement students to spearhead the ongoing development of the very successful Mind Your Mood mental health campaign in 2019/20. The placement opportunity will be for 10 months from 1st August 2019 to 31st May 2020.
This placement opportunity would be suitable for any student who has completed 2 years of their undergraduate course studying either a health-related subject, such as nursing, social work, allied health professional, psychology, sports, counselling, community development, community youth work, or business and marketing.
Job Role: The post will provide a placement opportunity for an undergraduate student to receive experience in recruiting a team of students who will avail of mental health awareness training for students across Ulster University, organising this training with outside agencies and facilitating the administration of its delivery. Facilitating a group of student Ambassadors to shape and develop the campaign across the University. They will also be involved in reporting on its success.
Location: The successful applicants will work within the Student Wellbeing team with one placement based in either Coleraine or Magee and one placement based in Jordanstown/Belfast.
Responsibilities
Following an initial induction/training period, the placement student will be responsible for:
- Development of and recruiting students to the Mind Your Mood Ambassadors programme to assist with breaking the stigma around mental health on each campus
- Agreeing on a needs-based programme of mental health awareness and other relevant training for students in conjunction with their campus student ambassadors
- Targeted mental health programmes to relevant courses as identified by the Student Wellbeing Manager on each campus
- Ongoing consultation and programme development with Students Union, Residential Assistants and other interested student clubs/societies/groups about the programme content and timing
- Promote the Mind Your Mood Award (funding for students) to develop their own mental health campaign, and support successful projects
- Booking all necessary training, rooms, catering, etc. for workshops, events and seminars
- Promoting programmes of training and take registration of interested students
- Promoting the ‘Mental Fitness EDGE award’
- Running training events and collating evaluations from each of these
- Producing an evaluation report from a project
Personnel Specification
Educational background
- Have completed 2 years of their 3/4-year Undergraduate course studying a health-related subject such as Nursing, Social Work, Allied Health Professional, Psychology, Sports, Counselling, Community Development, Community Youth Work or Business and Marketing; and who is available to carry out an academic year-long full-time placement.
- Be in excellent academic standing with their course director and able to supply a reference from them
- Have a good level of computer literacy and familiarity with packages such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel; and experience of delivering presentations to peers
Personal skills and competencies
Essential skills
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral
- A keen interest in and knowledge of mental health issues
- A track record of peer engagement and public speaking
- Excellent organisational skills
- Have experience of running campaigns, workshops and events with other students or as part of a community organisation
- Have an interest in increasing student engagement across Ulster University
Desirable
- Experience of coordinating events
- Experience in conducting research/evaluations
- Experience in writing formal reports
- Experience of recruiting and leading a group of peers or volunteers
