  • Maximal Oppositions

    Dose:

    • Eliciting approximately 100 targets in single words per session

    Session length:

    Sessions typically last:

    • 30 minutes (Gierut 1989)
    • 45-60 minutes (Barlow 2005)
    • 60 minutes (Gierut 1990)

    Dose frequency:

    • 2 sessions per week (Donicht et al. 2009, Gierut 1989, Pagliarin et al. 2009)
    • 3 sessions per week (Williams et al. 2010, Gierut 1990, Topbaş and Ünal 2010)

NOTE: Information on total intervention duration and cumulative intervention intensity for this approach is limited. See Williams et al. (2010) page 107 for more information.

  • Empty Set

    Dose:

    • Eliciting approximately 100 targets in single words per session

NOTE: Information on dose for this approach is limited. It can be surmised that the dose for empty set will be the same as that of maximal oppositions as the procedures are largely similar - just differing in target selection.

    Session length:

    Sessions typically last:

    • 45 minutes (Pagliarin et al. 2009, Pagliarin et al. 2012)
    • 60 minutes (Gierut 1991, Gierut and Neumann 1992)

    Dose frequency:

    • 2 sessions per week (Pagliarin et al. 2009, Pagliarin et al. 2012)
    • 3 sessions  per week (Gierut 1991, Gierut and Neumann 1992)

NOTE: Information on total intervention duration and cumulative intervention intensity for this approach is limited. See Williams et al. (2010) page 107 for more information.

  • 2/3-element clusters

    Dose:

    • Eliciting approximately 100 targets in single words per session (Gierut and Champion 2001, Gierut 1998, Barlow 2005)

    Session length:

    Sessions typically last:

    • 45-60 minutes (Barlow 2005)
    • 60 minutes (Gierut 1998, Gierut and Champion 2001)

    Dose frequency:

    • 2-3 sessions per week (Barlow 2005)
    • 3 sessions per week (Gierut 1998, Gierut and Champion 2001, Williams et al. 2010)

    Total intervention duration:

    • Typically between 16 - 19 sessions are provided (i.e., approximately 5 - 6 weeks) (Gierut 1998, Gierut and Champion 2001, Williams et al. 2010)

    Cumulative intervention intensity:

    • Gierut (1998) reported a cumulative intervention intensity of 4800

See Williams et al. (2010) page 107 for further information
