The specific impact described in this case study is the introduction of shared education as a public policy in Northern Ireland. The context for this innovative policy reform is that the education system in Northern Ireland largely reflects the segregated society which emerged during some 30+ years of ethno-national conflict. Much of the geography of the Province divided into two separate communities (Protestant and Catholic) with associated public services in education, housing and health provision. This case study offers evidence of a research informed policy change which led to shared education provision in Northern Ireland.
