The role of a Health and Safety Co-ordinator in the workplace:

  • Develop and agree an annual health and safety plan for the area.
  • Assist with the implementation of the plan.
  • Develop and continually manage a H&S training matrix for employees.
  • Assist with completing the H&S checklist to include collecting the relevant information.
  • Organise relevant departmental checks/ inspections as required.
  • Develop and review local H&S risk assessments and procedures.
  • Communicate the significant findings from the risk assessment and assist in providing training of local procedures.
  • Provide H&S advice, where possible or signpost to the relevant team (HSW) to successfully deal with H&S issues, queries, or concerns.
  • Liaise with other HSW champions, trade union H&S representatives and the HSW team on health, safety, and wellbeing matters.
  • Effectively communicate H&S information and reports to staff and students, where appropriate.
  • Maintain H&S documentation (RA, Procedures, Training, Inspection reports etc).
  • Co-ordinate the: Fire Safety Checklists, Health and Safety Checklists, Accident/ Incident reporting, Induction information for new staff and students and communicate.
  • Attend H&S meetings if required at school, faculty, department, or campus level.
  • Prepare for H&S audits and inspections. Maintain an audit ready work area.
  • Develop and maintain a positive safety culture within your work area.
  • Collaborative working with other HSW champions across UU.
  • Attend annual HSW champion meetings and relevant training.
