Ulster University has announced the opening of applications for a new suite of funded postgraduate programmes and short courses, launching this September 2025.

Delivered as part of the Department for the Economy’s Skill Up initiative, these flexible, high-impact programmes aim to equip individuals across Northern Ireland with the expertise needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving job market.

With limited places available, eligible applicants can access Postgraduate Certificate programmes and short courses across a range of priority sectors, including Health & Social Care, Green Skills, Software & Digital and Business and Hospitality & Tourism.

Programmes will be delivered online and in-person at Ulster University in Belfast, Coleraine, and Derry~Londonderry, offering a dynamic blend of academic excellence and industry engagement.

Professor Paul Bartholomew, Ulster University Vice Chancellor, said:

These Skill Up programmes allow learners to gain valuable, real-world knowledge. Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald welcomed the announcement saying:

Through Skill Up, we are removing barriers to learning and offering free access to high-quality postgraduate programmes in areas that matter most – clean energy, digital innovation, healthcare and more. This partnership with Ulster University is about preparing our workers not just for today, but for the future.”
