The School of Health Sciences is currently based on our Jordanstown campus. We are one of the few Health Science Schools in the UK to offer six Allied Health Professions subjects together with Healthcare Science programmes.
The School of Health Sciences is one of the oldest Allied Health Professional academic schools in the United Kingdom, with a distinguished history of producing graduates who then become leaders in research, health and social care services and education.
The School supports continuing professional development, it contributes to knowledge through world-leading multi-professional translational research, centred on the physical needs of people with chronic conditions. We then transfer this knowledge to key stakeholders in order to directly impact on healthcare policy and practice. The information that we have gathered also contributes to social and economic development through technology and knowledge transfer.
The School of Health Sciences is one of the largest of its kind in the UK and Ireland, with over 850 students, 52 academic, six technical and three administrative staff. In addition we have the support of internationally recognised visiting clinicians and professors and input from other academics within the University
Particular strengths in the School are the professional nature of our programmes and our close working relationships with our professional and statutory, regulatory bodies. The School has an excellent programme of inter-professional education at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Colleagues in the School are professionally qualified and registered with their professional/regulatory body. They maintain their professional registration through teaching, research and scholarly activity.
The School has state of the art premises with modern practical laboratories and sophisticated equipment and instrumentation for teaching and research. All staff members are committed to the development and implementation of new and effective methods of teaching and learning.
Student training and education is delivered by small group teaching, inter-professional workshops, lectures, hands-on training in practical laboratory and clinical settings, the use of computers for computer-aided learning, Objectively Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), data analysis, word processing, online journal searches and the use of the Internet. Placements are an integral component of all programmes and they contribute to the requirements for professional registration. Placements are monitored by academic colleagues in close collaboration with practice placement colleagues.
