Overview

Education

PhD Marine Geophysics, University of Southampton, 1997

MSc Geophysics, Durham University, 1994

BSc Geology, University College Cork, 1993

Teaching interests

Rory teaches aspects of spatial mapping, GIS, underwater remote sensing and introductory maths on the environmental science and geography degree programmes. He also co-ordinates final year dissertations across the School of Geography and Environmental Sciences.

Research interests

Rory is a marine geoscientist, interested in applications of ocean mapping methods. His research focuses on detecting, quantifying and understanding change in past and present geomorphological, archaeological and bio-physical environments. A better understanding of these processes allows us to inform policy makers and develop effective mitigation strategies to minimise loss in the face of increasing natural and human forcing.
