Professor Gerard Leavey
Overview
Professor Leavey is Director of the Bamford Centre for Mental Health and Wellbeing. Prior to this he was Director of Research in a Mental Health NHS Trust and an Executive member of the UK Mental Health Research Network established in 2005.
A social scientist, he has a BSc in Policy Studies (University of North London), an MSc in Public Health (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) and a PhD in Medical Sociology (University College London).
He is a Visiting Professor at Kings College London, and Honorary Senior Research Fellow at UCL. He has worked with Chinese medical colleagues since 2020 and is a Visiting Professor (Henan Children's Hospital).
Professor Leavey has more than £50M in grants from major funding bodies.
He is currently leading on the CHOICE project, a £2.2M study of social prescribing for people with severe mental illness and is a senior investigator on a major UKRI initiative, the Population Health Improvement - UK.
His latest book, recently published by Routledge, is The Role of Trust in Mental Health Vulnerability and Trust-Building in Theory and Practice.
