Eligibility criteria

As part of our Performance Sport Programme, Ulster University Sport is delighted to be able to offer individual Ulster University-registered student athletes the opportunity to apply for a Performance Sport Scholarship or High-Performance Sport Scholarship.  The eligibility criteria to apply for each are as follows:

Performance Sport Scholarship

A student with senior representative honours at county, provincial, or national level in line with the competitive structure of their sport and / or who is part of their governing body performance development programme (or equivalent) where such a structure exists.

High-Performance Sport Scholarship

A student in receipt of a Sport Northern Ireland Athlete Award (or equivalent), who is a Carded Athlete under the Sport Ireland International Carding Scheme or in receipt of an Athlete Performance Award from UK Sport.

A student representing Northern Ireland, Ireland, or Great Britain at senior international level in a sport with a Sport Northern Ireland, Sport Ireland, or UK Sport-recognised governing body (NGB).  Or, as an international student, they represent their own country at senior international level (or equivalent) in a sport recognised by a body comparable to a NGB in that country.

N.B.

  • Applicants must compete in a sport that has a National Governing Body recognised by Student Sport Ireland (SSI), British University and Colleges Sport (BUCS), and / or Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU).
  • Applicants will be expected to be a member of the relevant Ulster University student sport club.
  • Student athletes from our Performance Team sports including Men’s Basketball, Men’s and Ladies Gaelic Football, Golf and Women’s Hockey, are not eligible to apply for an Individual Sport Scholarship as they have a sport specific system of Scholarship support in place.
  • All successful applicants will be required to attend the Sports Scholarship Awards Ceremony held in November on the Belfast campus.
  • This is a competitive process and meeting the eligibility criteria to apply does not guarantee the award of a Scholarship.
  • The maximum Sports Scholarship award value will be equivalent to the full-time home (NI / ROI) undergraduate tuition fee in the academic year of application.
