Ulster University Business School’s award-winning Talent Hub reached an exciting milestone with a high-energy finale event held on 10 December in the Great Hall at the University’s Derry~Londonderry campus.
The Talent Hub Finale marked the culmination of weeks of industry-led engagement, bringing together students, employers and partners from across the North West, nationally and internationally, all with a shared focus on developing future-ready talent and strengthening the regional skills pipeline.
Developed as part of the Global Business and Enterprise (GBE) department offerings and delivered in collaboration with key partners FinTrU and the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, the Talent Hub creates meaningful opportunities for students to connect directly with employers while building the confidence, skills and networks needed for the world of work.
The finale event showcased the ambition, professionalism and talent of Ulster University’s second-year undergraduate students, who took part in a fast-paced Pitch for Placement format. Over 100 students delivered concise 30-second pitches to around 20 employers, clearly articulating their skills, career interests and placement aspirations.
The Great Hall was transformed into a dynamic networking space, with students engaging in one-to-one conversations with employers from a wide range of sectors. For many, it was a first opportunity to pitch themselves in a professional setting, developing essential communication, networking and public-speaking skills in a supportive but realistic environment.
This year, the Talent Hub also introduced a new Entrepreneurial Pathway, designed to support students with innovative business ideas and an interest in entrepreneurship. As part of this pathway, 10 students took part in a three-minute ‘Dragons’ Den’-style pitch to a small panel of employers and potential funding supporters. This session took place on the afternoon of 10 December in the Minor Hall, providing students with valuable real-world pitching experience and expert feedback to help develop their ideas further.
The impact of the Talent Hub Finale was immediate, with a number of employers already approaching students to discuss short-term and year-long placement opportunities, reinforcing the value of early engagement between students and industry.
The event demonstrated the strength of collaboration between Ulster University, business partners and the wider employer community, all working together to support students as they transition from education into professional life. By focusing on real employer expectations and practical skills development, the Talent Hub continues to bridge the gap between university study and the workplace.
As Talent Hub 2025 continues to build momentum, the success of the finale event underlines its role as a flagship initiative for employability, entrepreneurship and regional engagement at Ulster University’s Derry~Londonderry campus.
