Ulster University has once again been awarded Platinum status in the 2025 Business in the Community Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey, reaffirming its leadership in environmental performance.
The survey assesses organisations across key areas including sustainability governance, supplier engagement, carbon emissions, energy use, biodiversity, and environmental education and training. Ulster University’s Platinum rating reflects the collective effort of staff and students to embed sustainability into every aspect of university life.
Professor Ian Montgomery, Dean of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility, said:
“Achieving Platinum status is a fantastic outcome and a testament to the dedication of colleagues across the University. Sustainability is central to our mission, and this recognition demonstrates the impact of our ongoing work to reduce environmental impact and promote responsible practices.”
In addition to this success, Ulster University has maintained a strong position in the QS Sustainability Rankings, placing 270th globally among 2,001 institutions, with an improved score of 79.2%, keeping it within the top 14% worldwide.
Performance highlights include a significant rise in Social Impact, moving up 47 places to joint 222nd, while maintaining a strong relative position in Environmental Impact and Good Governance.
