Running from 14 October to 9 November, the Belfast International Arts Festival (BIAF) will bring a vibrant new programme of contemporary arts and culture, showcasing outstanding talent from both around the world and closer to home, spanning theatre, dance, music, visual arts, literature, and film.

Speaking about the festival, Director of the Vice Chancellor’s Office at Ulster University and Chair of the Belfast International Arts Festival, Fiona Kane, commented:

“Ulster University was delighted to host the launch of the Belfast International Arts Festival 2025 Autumn Programme, a truly special celebration that fills the city with creativity, energy, and connection each year. This festival is a showcase of both homegrown talent and world-class international artists, offering audiences the chance to experience the very best of the arts right here in Belfast.

"The festival reflects Belfast’s rich culture, the vibrancy of our communities, and the collaboration that defines our city. We are proud to support an event that not only inspires and entertains but also strengthens Belfast’s reputation as a welcoming place for the arts to thrive.”

The launch event included speeches from the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Tracy Kelly, Chair of the Arts Council for Northern Ireland, Liam Hannaway and Artistic Director and Chief Executive of the BIAF, Richard Wakely.

Guests also enjoyed musical performances from Irish composer, writer, director and performer, Michael Gallen alongside the Ulster Orchestra, and renowned Irish traditional musician and violinist, Martin Hayes.

As part of the festival, Ulster University Chancellor and acclaimed artist, Colin Davidson alongside broadcaster, Mark Carruthers, will be in conversation with Marie-Louise Kerr on 5 November, hosted at the Belfast campus. The event will explore Twelve Paintings, their recently published book, which was inspired by twelve of Davidson’s most celebrated works.

Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Tracy Kelly said:

“Artistic Director and Chief Executive Richard Wakely is certainly going out on a high with this wonderfully diverse and engaging festival programme. The council is proud to support the Belfast International Arts Festival, as it brings such creativity and richness of cultural experience to the city, expertly balancing contributions from both homegrown and international artists.

"Culture brings so much joy and meaning to our lives, animates the city and attracts people to visit and this festival is a real gem for Belfast. I wish Richard, his team and all those performing and supporting the very best for this year’s edition.”
