About the Programme

This course is designed to prepare the student on completion to apply nursing knowledge, understanding and skills to meet the needs of their clients/families and groups they are responsible for, to achieve safe, effective and person-centred nursing practice, and to provide leadership to others.

The PGCert is designed to be taken over one academic year in part time mode, or one semester in full time mode. This programme leads to the award of PGCert Nursing and consists of modules amounting to 60 credits. Depending on the combination of modules, students may be awarded PGCert Nursing (with a pathway).

The PGDip is designed to be taken over two academic years in part time mode or one year in full time. This programme leads to the award of PGDip in Nursing and consists of modules amounting to 120 credits, including two compulsory modules (Advanced Methods in Research and Development in Health and Social Care and Transforming Practice Through Person-centred Collective Leadership). Depending on the combination of modules, students may be awarded PGDip Nursing (with a pathway).

The MSc is taken over three academic years in part time mode or one year full time. The programme leads to the award of MSc Nursing and consists of modules amounting to 180 credits, including MSc Dissertation. Depending on the combination of modules, students may be awarded MSc Nursing (with a pathway).

A student who successfully achieves the Master of Science degree will, additionally, be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of scientific methodological rigor and the ability to undertake and present a supervised independent project in a contemporary area of nursing or related area

  • Principles of Nursing Assessment - 30 credits
  • Global Perspectives in Transforming Health - 30 credits
  • Evidence Informed Practice for Nursing in the UK - 30 credits
  • Enhancing Readiness for Nursing OSCE Assessment - 30 credits
  • The Care of the Patient Requiring Urgent and Emergency Care in a Hospital Setting - 30 credits
  • Caring for the Person presenting with Minor injury and Major Trauma in a hospital setting  - 30 credits
PGDip (120 credits)
