Overview: This two-part workshop will provide a wide-ranging exploration of supervising practice-based PhDs, addressing the unique challenges and opportunities of guiding these research journeys.

In Part One, the focus will be on the key concerns and questions supervisors commonly encounter. A panel of experienced supervisors—including Dr Catherine O’Hara, Dr Sandra Johnson, and Dr Chris McHugh - will share personal reflections and insights, creating an open dialogue that surfaces practical strategies and addresses uncertainties in areas such as balancing academic and practice-driven priorities.

Building on this foundation, Part Two delves deeper into critical areas of interest. The panel will explore supporting practice-based methodologies, emphasising the integration of creative and professional practices into the research process. Discussions will also examine the role of practice in shaping research outcomes, managing ethical considerations, and ensuring robust, meaningful contributions to knowledge.

Intended Audience: This workshop is ideal for supervisors as well as doctoral researchers seeking tailored guidance and community exchange in this dynamic and evolving area.
