Maple Lodge is situated close to campus and is only a few minutes walk away from Coleraine town, where you will find a full range of shops and supermarkets, on the outskirts of the town there is a cinema, bowling alley and other retail outlets.
Coleraine campus is a great base for exploring the north coast of Northern Ireland, where you will find beautiful scenery and sandy beaches.
Set in the heart of the Coleraine, Portrush and Portstewart triangle the University is central to key locations.
The north coast is a major tourist destination in Northern Ireland, with opportunities to take part in a host of activities.
The area also has good transport links, so Belfast and Derry/Londonderry can be easily reached by bus or train.
Below is some useful and important information that you should be aware of during your time at Maple Lodge.
Banking
Most UK banks and building societies are located in Coleraine town centre.
The post office is also located on the bridge in the Central Building, it offers cash withdrawals for some banks and building societies.
Bicycles
Bicycles are not allowed in the flats. There is a cycle hub comprising locker storage, shower and changing facilities and cycle parking cycle available free. Each hub is access controlled, with applications for their use made via car-parks@ulster.ac.uk
Car Parking
There is on-site parking for approximately 10-15 cars.
Free parking is provided for residents only on a first come, first served basis.
The University accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to any vehicle left in the car park.
Cleaning
You are responsible for cleaning your own bedroom and kitchen. You are encouraged to work a Rota with your flat mates to ensure that the flat is kept clean and rubbish is removed. There will be an inspection once a semester.
Fire Alarm
On hearing an alarm (continuous sounding for more than 30 seconds), you should follow the “Fire/ Emergency Procedure” as set out on the blue and white notice in your apartment.
If you encounter a fire, no matter how small, you should also follow this procedure.
The alarms are routinely tested every Monday at 11am.
Fire Alarm – Prevent False Alarms
Do not use aerosols such as hairspray or deodorant near smoke detectors.
Ventilate the room when showering to allow the steam to exit and use the extractor fan.
Never leave cooking unattended.
Smoking is not permitted within any University building.
Electricity
There is a cap on the electricity usage within the apartment a £5.00 per room. The electricity will be topped up every Monday. If you are using more electricity than the allowance you can purchase extra using the code on your room key label.

The Night Assistant and the ResLife Coordinators are First Aid trained and can be contacted on 07714393312

All injuries and incidents must be reported to Residential Services staff.
Heating and Hot water
A timer operates the heating and hot water.
Heating Times
Monday to Friday 7.00am-9.00am & 6.00pm-10.00pm
Weekends 8.00am-10.00am & 6.00pm-11.00pm
Hot Water Times
Monday to Friday 6.00am-11.00pm
Weekends 7.00am-12.00noon & 5.00pm-11.00pm
The heating times may be extended during the winter months where necessary. Please turn off any unwanted lights, radiators etc. in order to conserve energy.
There is heating of £10 per week per student.
If residents exceed the capped rates, then all residents will be responsible for paying the difference between the capped rates and actual usage.
Laundry
The laundry room is equipped with washing machines and tumble dryers and is open seven days a week from 8.00am to 11.00pm.
Maintenance
If any repairs are required in your accommodation please fill in a fault report form online so we can fix it or contact Kathyrn in the office.
Please note that appointments cannot be made for maintenance work and access to your room may be required to facilitate repairs and maintenance when you are absent.
Night Assistant (NA)
The NA operates from the Residential Services Office and is available 10.00pm to 5.00am Sunday evening to Friday morning, to contact telephone 078 8538 9490.
The NA provides advice and assistance for a range of issues and are mainly responsible for health and safety.

Room Access
From time to time, we will require access to your bedroom & or apartment for routine maintenance checks.
You will be given 7 days’ notice but in the event of an emergency we may need to access your room without notice.
Rubbish
Please make sure that all your kitchen rubbish is placed in black bin bags.
Each kitchen has a bin for recycling and a bin for general waste All rubbish should be removed by residents to the appropriate bins bins, which are clearly visible in the residential areas. Always place your rubbish in a bin - not on the ground
The blue bins are for recycling, and you can put newspapers, cardboard, clean bottle & jars and clean tin cans in this bin and we encourage you to recycle.
The bins are emptied fortnightly.

SafeZone App
Ulster University has teamed up with technology firm CriticalArc to provide SafeZone, a free app for students and staff that connects you to the University security team if you ever need urgent help, first aid or if you have an emergency while on campus.
Security
Please make sure you close doors firmly behind you and do not let strangers into the accommodation.
Remember to keep your keys with you at all times and never give them to another person. Always remember to take your keys with you as being locked out does not constitute an emergency.
Shopping
All the big supermarkets have stores in Coleraine. Tesco's is in the town centre and Asda, Sainsburys and Lidl are located at the retail parks.
