Overview

Peter Sheridan is the Commissioner for Investigations for the new Independent Commission for Reconciliation and Information Recovery (ICRIR) which provides information to victims, survivors and their families about Troubles-related deaths and serious injury and promotes reconciliation.

Peter was formerly the Chief Executive for the peace-building charity Co-operation Ireland, an all-island community organisation to build mutual respect and understanding between the peoples of NI and the ROI through practical co-operation.

Prior to this he was an Assistant Chief Constable with the Police Service of NI. Peter retired from the police service in 2008 after 32 years police service.

Before retiring he was responsible for the Crime Operations Department, which included murder and serious organised crime investigation including terrorist investigations.

Peter was a Commissioner with both the Equality Commission and Foyle Port and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Woodland Trust.

He graduated from Cambridge University with a master’s degree, attended the FBI Academy in 1999 and was awarded the OBE in 2008 for services to the community.

In January 2018 Peter was made an Honorary Professor in the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice, at Queens University Belfast.

He is a deputy Lord Lieutenant for Derry~Londonderry and an Honorary Professor with the George Mitchell Institute at Queen's University. Peter was awarded a CBE in the King’s Birthday Honours 2023 for services to peace-building.

Hugo Wilson is a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Director, Chartered Manager and Chartered Governance Professional. He has a passion for the education and development of young people so that they can become the best that they can be. As a member of the Ulster University Alumni, he is keen to use his skills, knowledge and abilities to ensure that Ulster University is one of the top performing universities in the Island of Ireland, the UK and Western Europe.

Hugo took early retirement from 20 years of statutory Finance Director and Managing Director positions in private sector companies in the property, hotel, specialist joinery, luxury goods and FMCG sectors developing and delivering visions, strategies, objectives, corporate and property acquisition programmes with associated funding strategies as well as extensive capital expenditure programmes to ensure the growth and success of the companies. Prior to retirement, his focus at Board level was on governance, strategic finance, strategic risk management, sustainability and mentoring.

Hugo provides business consultancy advice to property investment, property development and trading companies and sits on several Charity Trustee boards where he oversees extensive capital expenditure projects, significant financial investments and large scale pension funds.
Hugo is married with two grown up children. He enjoys fitness, travel, music and reading.

Alan Moore OBE

Overview

Alan is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and prior to retirement in September 2021, had been employed as the Director of Strategic Capital Development within the Western Health and Social Care Trust since 2009.

Within that role Alan was responsible as the Trust's SRO for the successful deliver of a £1bn+ capital investment programme, which has included the ongoing redevelopment of Langevin Hospital, the construction of the Northwest Cancer Centre, the construction of the Southwest Acute Hospital in Enniskillen and the new Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex.

In addition, Alan has been involved in cross border emergency planning and humanitarian response training for many years and was recognised with the award of an OBE in the 2021 New Year's Honours for his contribution to this work.

Since retirement Alan has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director  with the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board in Dublin. He is also an Associate of the HSC Leadership Centre.

In this latter capacity, he undertakes periodic short-term assignments for Health Trusts and Government Departments.

Alan also serves as Vice Lord-Lieutenant for the County Borough of Londonderry which covers the geographical entity of Derry City and more recently as Honorary Consul for Ukraine in Northern Ireland.

Russell Sloan

Overview

Russell Sloan is a former Chief Executive Officer for Kainos Group plc, a UK-headquartered IT provider with expertise across Workday Services, Workday Products and Digital Services providing digital transformation.

Russell joined Kainos as a graduate from Queen’s University Belfast in 1999 and held various roles, including establishing and leading the Digital Services division to over 1,600 people.

Russell is an advocate for the development of people, sustainability and diversity.

Russell studied Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast and is a Chartered Engineer.  He is an alumnus of Stanford Graduate School of Business and Darden Graduate School of Business, University of Virginia.

Chris Trotter

Overview

Chris is a Venture Capital Investment Director making equity investments into Northern Ireland’s fastest growing and most innovative companies. With 15 years experience in finance, strategy and technology, Chris advises management teams as they develop new products, grow revenues and increase employment.

Chris graduated from Ulster University in 2012 with a Degree in Accounting, and qualified as a Charted Accountant with PwC in 2015. Chris then worked in the technology industry as a Software Developer before joining the venture capital sector.

In 2024 Chris joined Whiterock which manages five funds across debt and equity and to date has invested over £130m in Northern Ireland businesses. Whiterock works in partnership with clients to fund ambitious plans for growth.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys running and spending time with his wife and two sons.

Overview

Dr Patrick Porter is currently employed across two roles- Business Development and Funding Manager 0.6FTE / Technical Planning & Development Manager 0.4FTE

Dr Patrick Porter has been a member of staff of Ulster University for over 12 years, contributing extensively to institutional development, strategic planning, and community engagement. He is a member of the School of Engineering Executive, where he plays a key role in shaping the school’s teaching and research strategies.

Patrick is a founding member of University’s Technician Commitment Steering Group, advocating for visibility, recognition, career development, and sustainability for technical staff across disciplines. He was the first non-academic elected to the University’s Research and Innovation Committee and has led or chaired numerous working groups and project teams, including the CVRP Subgroup on Lab-Based Teaching and the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) initiative.

His leadership extends across multiple University initiatives, including Faculty Lead on the Valuing & Voices Oversight Group; Technical representative on the Student Success Centre Code of Practice; member of the School of Engineering Athena Swan (AS) committee and Faculty Lead on the University’s AS committee (both attaining a Silver award); and representative for Ulster University in its exchange programme with Shaanxi University of Science & Technology, Xi’an, China.

Beyond the University, Patrick is actively involved in charitable work. He serves as Chair and board member of Pretty ‘n’ Pink, a breast cancer charity. His dedication to service has been recognised through a nomination for an Outstanding Service Award and receipt of the Ulster University Community Partnership Service Award.

Rebecca Roberts

Rebecca Roberts is the Student Academic Affairs Team Manager.

Rebecca Roberts is the Student Academic Affairs Team Manager within the University’s Centre for Quality Enhancement – working closely with a wide range of stakeholders across both the academic and professional services, and with students.

Rebecca brings over 25 years of senior management experience across the public, statutory, and third sectors in the UK and Northern Ireland, including more than a decade in higher education. Her career spans national and international contexts, with a background in learning and teaching as a teacher and lecturer, and in workforce practitioner development since 1991.

From 2015 to 2023, Rebecca served as Head of Excellence at Belfast Metropolitan College, where she led on organisational people development, technology enhanced learning, and curriculum and quality enhancement. She sat on several Governing Body sub-committees and contributed to institutional leadership as part of the Senior Leadership Team.

Rebecca is a member of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD) as a Chartered Fellow. Her expertise includes working across all organisational levels, with Boards and Governing Bodies, senior leadership teams and working with external bodies/partners such as the Department for the Economy (DfE) and the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).

A recent graduate of Ulster University, Rebecca earned her MSc in Executive Leadership with Distinction in 2023, further strengthening her commitment to excellence in education and leadership.

Professor Paddy Gray OBE

Paddy Gray is an established academic and has wide experience of academic and applied research with over 300 publications on housing related issues. He has acted as Expert Advisor to government and regularly sits on strategic panels. In 2010 he was appointed the first ever Irish President of the Chartered Institute of Housing UK and Hong Kong.

He is on the board of the Wheatley Group Scotland’s largest Housing Association, Chair of the Wheatley Foundation, Vice Chair of Glasgow Housing Association, and on the Board of City Building Glasgow. In NI he is Chair of Connswater Homes.

In ROI he is Chair of Tuath Housing, Chair of iCare Housing and a member of Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) and Chair of its Research Committee. He is a member of the Co-ordination Committee of the European Network of Housing Research and is on the board of Safeagent in London. In 2012 was awarded an honorary Fellowship of RICS.

In 2015 he won the UK national award for Outstanding Contribution to Work Experience. In 2017 he was named the top power player in housing in the UK and in 2019 was awarded an OBE for services to housing and communities.

He is a visiting professor at Spiru Haret University, Romania and Jiangxia University, Fujian China. In 2021 he was appointed by the Minister of Housing to the new Housing Commission in Ireland

Dr David Clements

Overview

Mr David Clements is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ireland, retired in the summer of 2014 from a career spent with PwC in which the last twenty years had been as a Partner leading Corporate Finance and Strategy services. In the last two years he acted as Chief Operating Officer in Northern Ireland responsible for driving the firm's growth agenda.

He retired early to progress interests in the voluntary and not for profit sectors in the areas of education, healthcare and the economically and socially marginalised.  David is married with three children.

Professor John Cole CBE

John previously worked with the Northern Ireland Civil Service, and as of 2021 he was an "independent consultant public-sector infrastructure projects". From 1996 to 1998, he served as president of the Royal Society of Ulster Architects. He was chief executive of Health Estates Agency (2003-2008) and later deputy secretary and chief estates officer at DHSSPS from 2008-2013.

In 2013, he retired from the role of deputy secretary and chief estates officer (DHSSPS). Also in 2013, he was commissioned to revise the DCAL Policy for Architecture and the Built Environment. In 2016, he was commissioned to review the closure of several schools in the City of Edinburgh Council area. The resulting report, titled "Report of the Independent Inquiry into the Construction of Edinburgh Schools", also known as the "Cole Report", was published in February 2017.
