Staff Development

We are currently undergoing restructuring within the People and Culture team – this includes the creation of two new sections – one focused on People Development and one on Organisation Design and Change.  Whilst these restructures occur, we have created a new mailbox – – for any queries to be raised.

Our aim is to promote and support a learning and development culture that enhances the well-being and performance of individual staff and the university. The approach we adopt is one of partnership with internal and external subject matter experts to design, commission and/or facilitate effective learning and development  solutions.

Our Scope

Staff Development support the professional and leadership development of all staff across the four campuses of the University. Our Professional Development Managers work in partnership with the respective leaders at all levels across the university to create and facilitate effective learning and development solutions for their staff in line with strategic institution-wide priorities, local specific needs and external developments within the HE sector.

Ulster University is currently embedding significantly reconfigured university-wide academic and professional support structures in parallel with an extensive campus development programme to enable the effective implementation of our ambitious Five & Fifty Strategic Plan.

The purpose of this website is to provide an overview of our current staff development provision including the range of supporting change interventions we offer to help embed our new strategic goals and structures.

Applying for a Development Programme

Members of staff who wish to register for any of our core development programmes may access the "Training Area" of CoreHR via the Employee Self Service link on the University portal. Guidance on using this new system is available here.

Please note that managers will not receive an automated notification to approve programme applications, so please advise your line manager that you have applied for a professional development programme and need them to approve your application.

To apply for programmes NOT available via the new CoreHR Portal please complete an application form.
