UREC receives all applications for ethical approval falling into categories B and D (as described in the Policy for the Governance of Research involving human Participants).
Full details of the university’s Code of Practice for Research Integrity, policies, procedures, forms, governance arrangements and UREC submission deadlines can be found on the Research Governance and Ethics webpages via the University portal.
You cannot submit your application until the filter committee advises you to proceed to UREC.

To submit to UREC, please email your application to researchgovernance@ulster.ac.uk
This must be submitted as one pdf document.
The documents should be provided in the following order:
- RG1e (checklist)
- RG1a (application form)
- Description/protocol (6 page maximum)
- Description of statistical techniques to be used
- Information sheet(s) for participants (including recruitment literature such as posters and emails)
- Consent form(s)
- All questionnaires, interview schedules or other instruments
- Letters of support from host organisations where appropriate
- RG1c (risk assessment form) where appropriate
- A list of references where appropriate
- Any other documentation unique to the study
- A 1 page CV from the chief investigator
- RG2 form(s) (peer review form)
- RG3 form (filter committee review form)
Research Integrity Check
The Research Governance section will check and validate all applications upon receipt. All University staff and students named in the application MUST have completed the University’s in-house online Research Integrity course (available on Blackboard) BEFORE ethical approval will be granted.
