Data Protection Requirements

All researchers need to take account of data protection requirements and be aware of the fundamentals of the DPA 2018 and GDPR. There is no separate category for studies involving the collection of participants’ personal information as these are represented across the entire range of human research.

While Research Governance can provide high level and general advice, the most comprehensive resource within the University can be found on our GDPR page.

Here you will find information on Data Protection Impact Assessments, Data Processing/Transfer agreements creating Privacy Notices and more, with contact details for colleagues within OUS who can provide detailed guidance when required.

Here you will find a template Privacy Notice for participants in research studies, together with instructions on how to use it. Every research study that includes the processing of personal and/or sensitive data must have a Privacy Notice.
