Technicians at Ulster University

Ulster University’s diverse community of technicians applies its specialist skills to the delivery of teaching, the student learning experience and research and innovation. In the professional services they create the best conditions in which teaching and research can thrive.

Across a wide range of disciplines from the creative industries and life and health sciences to engineering and hospitality our technicians are at home and making it all happen in our studios, labs and specialist teaching and research spaces.

Experts in their field, they apply their skills to bring materials, techniques and state-of-the-art equipment to life – making a difference on campus and beyond.

Technicians play a vital role in unlocking innovation, harnessing techniques and technology - nurturing confidence in support of a confident graduate pipeline and as an important driver within Northern Ireland’s research and development ecosystem.

Many are renowned for their professional creative practice or prior roles in industry; bringing their experience and networks to inform student learning and inspire career confidence.

Co-Chair, Technician Commitment Steering Group

“The steering group supports the technician community to share its story, find its voice and take its place within Ulster University’s strategy of People, Place and Partnership – recognising the unique skills of technicians, their impact in sustaining the places and spaces in which research and teaching thrive, and the collaboration across disciples and within sectors.

We are building an active technician community, equipped to pursue rewarding career pathways and be part of local and national networks across Ireland and in the UK that champion the ever-evolving understanding of why and how technicians are central to the development of tertiary education and research in NI.”
