The Compulsory Compliance Training Policy
The Compulsory Compliance Training Policy is now being implemented across Ulster University. This policy sets clear expectations for all staff to complete essential training that underpins our legal, regulatory, and institutional obligations.
It applies to all colleagues, regardless of contract type, and outlines the responsibilities of:
- Individual staff – to complete assigned training on time
- Managers – to monitor and support team compliance
- Departments – to uphold compliance standards across the University
Key Policy Highlights
- Completion timeframe: All assigned modules must be completed within 60 days of notification.
- Refresher training: Certain modules will require renewal every 1–3 years, depending on the topic.
- Role-specific training: Some colleagues may also be assigned additional modules relevant to their duties (e.g. lab safety, financial responsibilities). Your line manager will advise you if this applies.
- Supportive approach: Ulster University takes a partnership-based, supportive approach to compliance — focusing on engagement, understanding, and helping colleagues complete training successfully.
- Escalation process: If training remains incomplete after several reminders, your line manager and, if needed, Head of Department will be notified to ensure support and follow-up in line with the policy.
- Adjustments: Reasonable adjustments can be made for fully remote colleagues or those on long-term leave to ensure fairness and flexibility.
- Governance: The CCT Governance Group oversees the policy, ensuring training remains relevant, effective, and aligned with University strategy.
