Students, staff and members of the public are invited to enjoy a diverse programme of events taking place on campus and across the wider community, as Ulster University supports some of Northern Ireland's biggest Halloween festivities.
Ulster University is supporting Derry Halloween's 40th anniversary celebrations, with a programme of creative events showcasing student talent, community engagement and artistic collaboration.
On Wednesday 28 October (from 6pm – 8pm), the University's Derry~Londonderry campus (MU building - MU011) will host a free Movie Night featuring chilling short horror films created by students from Ulster University's BSc Cinematic Arts programme. Pre-booking is necessary.
The following day, young aspiring filmmakers aged 10-15 can take part in the free Monsters in Magee Film Camp Studio on Thursday 29 October (from 10am – 4.30pm) in the Foyle Arts Building (MQ) on campus, delivered by Woodlouse Studios. Participants will create a short film inspired by a mysterious invasion of the University's campus. Places are limited – so register in advance.
Ulster University is also contributing two performances, produced by Dr Giuliano Campo (Course Director, Drama), to the Derry Halloween’s Awakening the Walled City Trail, running from 28-30 October, from 6pm - 9pm. Harlequin and the Ghosts of a Thousand Faces (featuring Dr Campo along with two performers from the China National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts) will bring together Commedia dell'Arte traditions and Chinese folklore on Upper Shipquay Street. While The Return of the Mummers, featuring BA (Hons) Drama students, reimagines one of Ulster's oldest ghost stories through a haunting outdoor performance on Lower Shipquay Street. Both events are free and no tickets are required.
Meanwhile, at the University's Coleraine campus, Ulster University is partnering with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to host An American Halloween on Tuesday 27 October as part of the USA250 celebrations.
The event will feature family entertainment, amusements, American-themed characters, sports demonstrations, food vendors, a Johnny Cash tribute act and the return of the popular Spooky Trail. A dedicated Quiet Time session from 5.30pm to 6.30pm will provide a more accessible experience for families, before the main event begins at 6.30pm and concludes with a fireworks finale.
Across all three campuses, Ulster University clubs and societies will also host a range of student-focused Halloween activities, including pumpkin painting, movie nights, bingo, pub quizzes and themed social events.
Professor Malachy Ó Néill, Director of Regional Engagement at Ulster University, said :
