Kate O'Connor last night produced another outstanding performance to claim her first senior outdoor international gold medal, further cementing her place among the world's leading combined-event athletes.
The victory marks another historic milestone for O'Connor, who becomes Northern Ireland's first Commonwealth athletics gold medallist since 1986. Competing at her third Commonwealth Games, she improved on her eighth-place finish in 2018 and silver medal in Birmingham in 2022 to stand on top of the podium.
Kate graduated from Ulster University in 2025 with an MSc in Communication and Public Relations, completing her studies while competing internationally as one of the University's Performance Scholars.
The Commonwealth title adds to an extraordinary run of success that has seen Kate win World Athletics indoor and outdoor silver medals, as well as a series of major international podium finishes, firmly establishing her as one of the world's leading heptathletes.
Ulster University congratulates Kate on this historic achievement and wishes her every continued success as she continues to inspire on the international stage.
