The School of Engineering is proud to announce the successful renewal of its Athena Swan Silver Award, marking five years of continuous recognition under the Athena Swan Charter for its sustained commitment to gender equality, inclusivity and institutional change.

This renewal reflects not just a badge of honour but it is recognition of the significant, strategic and sustained focus on gender equality across the School.

Athena Sward recognises advancement of gender equality: representation, progression and success for all and over the past five years, the School has implemented wide-reaching initiatives to address structural inequalities, support the progression of underrepresented groups, and embed a culture of equity and transparency across all levels.

Professor Dewar Finlay, Head of the School of Engineering commented:

"We’re incredibly proud to retain the Athena Swan Silver Award for another term, following a rigorous assessment and application process. It speaks volumes about the dedication, teamwork, and values that drive the School of Engineering. The Athena Swan principles are woven into everything we do - and we have shown how we have been working to foster a supportive and inclusive working culture and the impact of that on the School and its staff.”

The School’s work under the Charter has also been instrumental in securing substantial funding in the domain, with several major grants explicitly recognising their robust EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) frameworks and commitment to a fair and supportive environment.

Damian McAlister, Chief People Officer, adds:

“Congratulations to the School of Engineering in retaining the Silver Athena Swan award for its focus on enhancing gender equality. This is a fantastic achievement for the School and I am grateful that the management team and staff remain fully engaged in driving forward initiatives that make the School more inclusive, diverse and equitable for everyone, through implementation of its Athena Swan Action Plan.”
