Congratulations to Ulster University Elks women’s field hockey club which has been crowned the 2025 Denman Shield champions for the first time since the 2010/11 season.
In this premier knock out competition for ladies’ hockey teams in the Ulster province of Ireland, the Ulster Elks took on Queen’s University Belfast at Havelock Park in Banbridge on 2 April, securing a 2-1 victory and ending their 15-year wait for the championship title.
Despite strong challenges and a late strike from Queen’s, the Ulster Elks held a strong defence with goals from Rachel Houston and Audrey Sawers ultimately securing the win.
One of the oldest ladies’ hockey competitions in the world, the Denman Ulster Shield was first held in 1896.
With four senior teams and a thriving junior club, the Ulster University Elks first team is currently captained by Gabi Scott, who collected the Denman Shield from Ulster Hockey President Mervyn Logan on Wednesday evening.
