Lina Malagon is a human rights lawyer and PhD in International Relations at the University of St Andrews, UK. Her career has balanced academic scholarship, with work as a researcher, litigant and developing advocacy in conflict-affected and post-conflict countries. Her career is based on interdisciplinary academic research and as a practitioner in the field of transitional justice, human rights, and the construction of public policy in Colombia and other Latin American countries.

Lina is a postdoctoral research associate contributing to the development, operation and support of Ulster’s contribution to the GCRF Research Hub on Gender, Justice and Security and in particular the project Socioeconomic Rights and Transition. Lina is developing research focused on the case study of Northern Ireland and a comparative study with other countries such as Sri Lanka, Colombia and Sierra Leone. The research will engage with diverse stakeholders with experience in using peace agreements and transitional justice measures as leverage to further socioeconomic claims.
