Exploring Agentic AI in Judicial Decision-Making: Ulster Law Leads the Way
Today in London, John Keers BL, Director of the Centre for Legal Technology, and Dr. John McCord, Research Lead, presented groundbreaking work on the potential role of Agentic AI in judicial decision-making, supported by co-investigator Dr. Vimal Dwivedi. As artificial intelligence becomes more embedded in legal processes, this timely research explores how emerging technologies could influence one of society’s most critical institutions—the justice system.
This initiative, led by Ulster University's School of Law, is currently the only law-focused project supported by the UK’s Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (AISI). It represents a unique and vital opportunity for Northern Ireland to shape the national and international dialogue around safe, transparent, and ethical AI deployment in the legal sector.
As the project develops, we are committed to close collaboration with the judiciary, policymakers, and both the AI and legal communities. Our aim is to ensure that any future use of AI within the courts system is grounded in the fundamental values of fairness, judicial independence, and accountability.
Stay tuned as we continue to lead in this evolving space—driving innovation while safeguarding the principles of justice.
