On 22 and 23 June, Prof Collins will be sharing the keynote speaker platform with Dr Fabian Salvioli, UN Special Rapporteur on transitional justice issues, at a by-invitation UN event gathering key actors from the Southern Cone countries of South America to review advances and remaining challenges in truth, justice, reparations and guarantees of non-repetition in the light of applicable UN standards and documents.
The event is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversaries of the 1973 military coups in Chile and Uruguay, and the 40th anniversary of the restoration of democratic government in Argentina.
Guest speakers at the public event that will launch the two-day working meeting include Estela de Carlotta, of Abuelas de la Plaza de Mayo in Argentina, and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk.
The public part of the event will be broadcast on a UN Youtube channel.
