Safe water for all

Thursday 24th October

Ulster University, Belfast campus, Conor lecture theatre, 7.00pm – 8.30pm

A lecture and panel discussion which will explore the issues around global access to safe drinking water, a basic human right.

In the Global North we have piped in water supplies which we take for granted to be safe. Technologies to effectively treat and disinfect water are well known.

However, in the Global South diarrhoreal diseases contracted due to unsafe water, poor hygiene and lack of sanitation, continue to be a major cause of child death. Around two billion people commonly drink water that is not safe to drink.

Experts from Ulster University will present the situation relating to access to safe drinking water and the issues surrounding this lack of access to a basic human right. A panel discussion will be held to engage and discuss the issue. TJI's Prof Rory O'Connell will contribute to the discussion on what is a human right?
