The work of staff and students in the Law Clinic makes a real difference to people’s lives. Under supervision from the Clinic Director, Dr Esther McGuinness, LLM Access to Justice students work on complex employment and social security cases for clients with limited financial resources who may not otherwise be able to pursue their cases, with undergraduate law students working alongside LLM students as McKenzie Friends in family law cases.

Since the Clinic opened in 2013, Clinic staff and students have provided over 10,000 hours of advice and representation, equating to approximately £1,121,000 of free legal advice and representation. We have been fortunate to have the support of the Department of Justice and Allen and Overy, who have provided generous scholarships for our students, and helped us to expand the reach of our educational provision and our pro bono work.
