Digital Services will shortly be updating the University's Adobe services to use Adobe Federated ID authentication.

Following this change, staff and students with University-managed Adobe licences will sign in to Adobe products and services using their University credentials through Single Sign-On (SSO).

Why are we making this change?

This update will:

  • Improve account security.
  • Simplify sign-in using University credentials.
  • Strengthen licence and access management.
  • Improve compliance with University security requirements

Who is affected?

Staff and Students with University Adobe Licences

Following the change, you may be required to:

  • Sign out and back into Adobe applications.
  • Re-authenticate using your University account.
  • Verify access to Adobe Creative Cloud services.

We expect minimal disruption and access to University-licensed Adobe applications will continue following the migration.

Users with Personal Adobe Accounts Using a University Email Address

If you have created a personal Adobe account using your University email address, Adobe will contact you directly with further instructions.

Affected users will have 30 days to update their personal Adobe account to use a non-University email address.

Before making any changes, you should ensure that any personal files, assets, libraries or other content stored in your personal Adobe account are backed up.

After implementation, Adobe may ask you to choose between:

  • A Personal Account
  • A University (Business/School) Account

Please ensure you select the appropriate account depending on whether you are accessing personal or University-owned content.

Teaching and Specialist Computer Labs

Digital Services is working to minimise any disruption to teaching and specialist computer labs using Adobe Shared Device Licensing and will complete validation activities following the change.

Further guidance will be provided to Faculties, Schools and support teams where required.

Implementation Timescales

Digital Services expects the changes outlined in this communication to be implemented during September and October 2026.

The initial changes to Adobe sign-in and account management are expected to be completed by week commencing 21 September 2026. Additional changes relating to the management of personal Adobe accounts using University email addresses are expected to commence during October 2026.

Further communications will be issued in advance of each stage, including confirmed dates and any actions required from affected users.

Action Required

At this stage, no action is required.

Line managers are asked to ensure that colleagues who may currently be absent from work are made aware of this communication, particularly if they hold an Adobe licence or use a personal Adobe account associated with their University email address.

Further updates, implementation timelines and user guidance will be provided by Digital Services as the work progresses.
