Service Description

Digital Services offers a range of training services for both staff and students.

We work with client departments and Staff Development to provide training tailored to staff needs.

We support the student experience with a service-focussed induction supplemented by a comprehensive catalogue of training materials.

Business Process

Classroom Technology Training

ICT Customer Services offer bi-annual training sessions to familiarise academic staff with the basic fixed IT and audiovisual equipment available to them in the majority of teaching rooms along with opportunities to tailor it with additional training on enhanced technologies and software such as wireless presentation, visualisers and lecture capture.

These sessions are advertised before the start of term via an all-staff email and our Twitter feed and we endeavour to arrange a date and time suitable for each individual user where possible.

Although formally offered twice a year, you can request a one-to-one overview at any time throughout the year by contacting the Service Desk.

Educational Technology Seminars

Educational Technology Seminars take place each term to help highlight new educational technology innovations within the University, providing an opportunity for academics to find out from their colleagues how new technologies can benefit their teaching.

Lunchtime Technical Seminars

ICT Customer Services also offer technical and pedagogic support to academic staff who wish to use new technologies in their teaching. The Project Officer (Educational Technologies) Analyst works directly with academic staff to advise on new technologies and best practice methods of using new technology in higher education.

Corporate Training

Digital Services offers training materials for products we have developed on behalf of client departments. These are often in the form of short training videos placed within the system. We also work with Staff Development on tailored programmes such as the Educational Technology Seminar series.

Student Inductions

Digital Services offers all new students the opportunity to attend one of our Induction Sessions at the start of each academic year.

These provide an overview of the key Library, IT and reprographic services offered by our department. Topics include:

  • How to find and borrow books
  • How to use the Library Catalogue
  • How to find an electronic journal
  • Computing facilities and services
  • Using email, printing and laptops
  • How to get help

To book a Joint Library and IT Induction session, please contact our Service Desk.

A video of the current Digital Services ICT induction can be found on the Student web site.

Supporting Materials

Training materials and online guides are available to assist you with much of the software you would encounter within our student network.

Most of these guides are commercial products and access to this area is restricted to students and staff at the Ulster University. For this reason, the area is password protected. See more at:
